Meet regularly as a group.
Don't procrastinate difficult tasks.

There will be numerous difficult and intimidating aspects of a design project. The worst way to handle this would be to postpone the handling of those tasks. It is much wiser to confront those issues earlier and handle them before it is too late. You will give yourself more time to solve difficult situations and it will improve your confidence in your abilities moving forward throughout the project.

A group desing project should include all members of the group. Everyone should have a share in what is being accomplished and all voices should be heard during brainstorming/problem-sovling sessions. And if anyone is not pulling their own weight, it should be brought to their attention. Make sure that everyone in the group understands their responsibiliites. The best way to ensure this is to meet regularly.

Make schedules with realistic goals and work towards them. Constantly check your progress against the schedule and work hard to stay on schedule or to keep ahead of it. Any delays should try to be absorbed into the schedule so as to minimize impact. And try to schedule tasks in parallel rather than in series, so as to accomplish more in a shorter amount of time.

You will not always know the answer to a question or problem. But more important than knowing an answer is knowing where to find the answer. The internet, textbooks, and your professors and advisors all have helpful information and can be consulted when you hit a roadblock. By confronting problems earlier on in a project, it allows you to utilize these resources more efficiently and conveniently.

Use your time wisely.
Use your resources wisely.

Words of Wisdom

There is a lot that our desing group has learned during the course of our project. There are many things we did correctly and some we could have accomplished better. It is our hope that this page will offer useful advice to future design groups.
